FREE 2025 PROPERTY TAX PROTEST HELP & GUIDE
If you opened your 2025 property tax notice and nearly spit out your coffee, you're not alone. Across Fort Worth and much of Tarrant County, homeowners are seeing sharp increases in their appraised values — sometimes by tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.
But here’s the good news: you have the right to protest, and it’s easier than you think.
As a real estate professional in Fort Worth, I’ve helped dozens of clients navigate this process. Below, I’ll walk you through exactly what you need to do to challenge your tax assessment — and potentially lower your tax bill.

-----------
📌 Step 1: Locate Your 2025 Notice of Appraised Value
You should have received this in the mail from the Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD). It includes:
-
Your property’s proposed 2025 appraised value
-
The deadline to file your protest (usually mid-May)
-
Instructions for protesting online or by mail
✍️ Step 2: File Your Protest
You can protest your value in two main ways:
Online:
-
Visit the TAD website
-
Create or log into your account
-
Enter your property ID and select “File a Protest”
By Mail or In Person:
-
Fill out the protest form included with your notice
-
Mail or deliver it to: 2500 Handley Ederville Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76118
📊 Step 3: Gather Comparable Sales (aka Comps)
This is where you show that your property is being overvalued compared to similar nearby homes. Use MLS data or sites like Zillow to find:
-
Homes that sold in the last 12 months
-
Similar size, condition, age, and location
📌 Insert link to your CMA or comparable sales report here
If you're not sure how to do this, reach out and I’ll help you pull the comps.
🧾 Step 4: Prepare a Support Letter (Optional but Recommended)
A simple cover letter to the Appraisal Review Board helps explain your position clearly. You can download a ready-to-use template below:

📅 Step 5: Attend Your Informal or Formal Hearing (if needed)
Many protests are resolved during the informal review, but if not, you can attend a formal hearing. Bring:
-
Printed comps
-
Your letter
-
Photos or condition issues (if applicable)
🧠 Pro Tip: Be Professional, Not Emotional
The review board isn’t the enemy — they’re just looking for facts. Stick to the data, stay calm, and back up your protest with solid information.
